Day 3 Reflection from THE MAN

Day three was great and informational, just as the first two days. Somthing that I am 200% sure that I will use in the future is animoto and voicethread. I really liked animoto because of the quality of the final product. I've had experience with video editing and making animated slideshows/projects etc....But animot was simple and fun to use and I can't say more about the quality. I also liked voicethread beause you can express yourself orally on every picture or slide and people can also give an explanation of what they are seeing and how they feel about it. Mrs. Longe, you were a great instructor. Your class was very comfotable and your attitude made me want to dig into the material even more, and that wouldn't have happened with an instroutor unlilke yourself. Classmates I had a wonderful time meeting you all and in the future if you need anything from "THE MAN" send me an email.......Or better yet, a TWEET...LOL

Yours Truely,

Fredrick "THE MAN" Jackson

Mark Czaplewski reflection day 3

Wow, I loved this class. I am leaving with a couple of projects I am going to use in class. I worked with Jing, Wikispaces and Animoto today and I loved everybit of it. Thanks for the work time.
I loved it

It's Not Rocket Science

I was pleased to see that most of the tools we we introduced to over the last few days worked in baically the same way. I almost wish that this class was offered closer to the start of school because I am eager to put these tools to use. Maybe it's a good idea to "play" with them for a while so I am qualified to introduce the students to them. I will definately use animoto, fotoflexer, and Twitter (believe it or not!).

I especially loved voicethread.

Thanks for everything Chris!

THE MAN'S VOICETHREAD trial #2

Day 3 Post

Chris, what a fabulous 3 days! I've learned so much and hope to take most, if not all, of what I learned and put it to good use this coming school year. I can think of so many ways to incorporate what I've learned in many of the units that we have for 8th grade language arts. This excites me and, if I'm excited, I think my students will be, too.

I especially love Timetoast and creating the cartoon in ToonDoo. Learning about Skype today was cool, since I've only seen it used on Oprah! Just knowing that this technology is available, mostly free, is amazing. Now it's getting ready for the upcoming school year. Well, we still have 8 weeks or so, don't we? :)

Thanks much!

Day 3 Reflection

I had a lot of fun working on projects in animoto and voicethread today. I plan to work with teachers back in my building to develop projects for their classes using these application and many of the others we have looked at over the past three days (ToonDoo...). I have several ideas in mind for English and social studies classes. The end products look so great--the kids will love creating them. Screencast-o-matic is going to be great for me to make demos of how to search on the different online services our library subscribes to. I really enjoyed having the time to create/play today. Thank you!!

#3 Reflection

Overall, this class was extremely valuable for me. I began with minimal knowledge of what a blog was, I had heard of Twitter, and knew there were sites that would be benificial for my classroom. After three days of learning and using computer technology, I know that I am headed in a positive direction, and the sites will not be intimidating to me as I explore on my own this summer. I have learned much information that I will use both professionally and personally. Thanks for a wonderful class! Ann

final reflection from Jeni Duffy

I'll tell you, my eyes are burning! Never spent so many hours in a row looking at a computer screen. . . ;)

Another day of new worlds being opened up for me. Today I fell in love with Prezi and ToonDoo, and see many classroom applications and connections for these sites. I was impressed, if not a little overwhelmed, with Google Calendar. I envision using that program to streamline lesson planning some day; how easy it would be to share and compare using such a tool. I'm afraid the one thing I did not befriend was Twitter. I'll give it another chance. Maybe. It's really the only thing this week that didn't grab me.

I've actually been inspired to incorporate technology not only into my lessons more, but into my life more. Thanks so much for everything -- I had a blast, and would take this class again in a heartbeat!

THE MAN'S VOICETHREAD

Reflection #3

Whew! What a technological field trip we've been on. I had a lot of fun using smilebox and becoming proficient in downloading files and embedding. There are so many uses for students and educators. It's been like going from the 24 count crayola box to the 164 count. I'm still reeling from all the color choices! It will be interesting to see what tools my students glom onto. My biggest disappointment today was my inability to understand and successfully use Twitter. I'll have to take some time this summer to give it another go. Thanks to Christing, Deb T., and all my peers who have helped me move more confidently into the technology of the 21st century!

Post Day 3

I came in to the class wanting to become more familiar with web 2.0 tools that I can incorporate into my training. Now I'll need to review, sort, sift and edit to decide which tools will be appropriate for inclusion. I can't thank you enough for a well organized class that provided a variety of activities at a pleasant pace.

Favorites include animoto, lunapix, the whole google suite and class tools. I am anxious to spend more time with voice thread to develop a list of ways to use it as a collaboration tool for all classess K-12.

I liked that you had us post to the blog. I've been reluctant to create a blog but now that I see how easy it is, I may take the plunge.

Reflection ~ Day 3

Wow! This week has been incredible. Highlights for me this week, just to name a few have been: IGoogle (and the suite tools), Blogger, Wiki, Classtools.net, Pandora, Voki, Fotoflexer, FunPhotoBox.com, Animoto and Glogster. I have gained so many useful tools and knowledge that I am excited to use with my students. Thank you so much for all your help and valuable resources you've shared.

3rd Day

This class has been amazing! Today I learned to use animoto. I composed a nature video with classical music. Students could compose shows with photos and music that take less time than power points. I also used voicethread to make a presentation on feminism with photos from the digital collections of the New York Public Library.
Students might enjoy evaluating art masterpieces with the voice component on voicethread.
It was neat to see and hear Debbie on skype.I would love to connect with an author as Debbie did who was in a treehouse as she spoke to a class.
It's been a very productive class.
You do a nice job of presenting technology as it relates to education.
Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Seesion Three reflections-Jan

Day Three-Friday, three days of new technology to absorb and and find an place within. Google calendar and Goggle docs look to be my most immediate work related interests. My work goal is to develop enough knowledge of the calendar to get my building up and running with it for scheduling IEP/evals/revals. Personally, I'd like to use Smilebox to manage and use my photos more extensively. I follow a few bloggs, so it's been interesting to learn how to blogg. Learning to 'tweet' on Twitter has been fun. My web vocabulary has certainly increased since Wednesday!

Day 3 Reflection

Today was really productive. My favorite part was creating my Animoto video. I'm really excited to get an educator account as I can create some great videos really quickly. Google Calendars is a big part of my life already but I think that I will be using it in the classroom a lot more now that I know about the tabs feature. However, I'm still not sold on Twitter. I will give it a shot for a while but the networking part of it doesn't seem to be as smooth as Facebook. It may be that I haven't spent enough time with it yet. Voicethread also seems to be a great tool for students to collaborate and also complete alternative assessments. It's another tool I'm very excited about.

Overall, this class was exactly what I was wanting. I added quite a bit to my tool box and polished up a number of tools that I was already using. I'm excited to employ these resources this coming year.

Day 3 Reflection

I learned a lot of new things today. I had never done Twitter before and was always curious about how it worked. I'm glad to have learned how to do it effectively. I want to continue to follow some of the great people that Chris suggested in class.
I am going to love Goggle Calendar! I want to be able to have my staff at school see who is signed up for the Media Center during the school year. I have wanted to find an easy and effective way to have them see my calendar online without being able to change anything. I think this application will work great! I can't wait to try it out this fall.
I tried a number of new things this afternoon. I did a Smilebox project which I posted to the blog and also did a Jing. I have been wanting to do a tutorial on how to log in to my library catalog and was able to use the Jing program and create a tutorial. I will create a better one over the summer to use in fall with my staff. I'm glad I was able to see how the program works.
I know I will refer to the Ning often and use a lot of the other programs that are listed there. There is SO much to try and experiment with. I'm glad I have some summer left to give things a try. Although I'll be honest, I am going to enjoy my summer and not spend the whole time playing.
Thanks for a great class!

Mary Cieslewicz-Day 2 post

Many good ideas--

Navigation is not my strong suit and I wish I had a gps system to help me find my way from place to place-- a GooglePositioningSystem.

Good transferable information on bringing photos into programs and embedding.

I was successful in establishing accounts at Pandora, twitter, voki sites.

Really looking foward to using the music sites and Classtools.net in my classroom.

Still uncertain about privacy aspects--don't know what privacy settings to put on the Twitter. I guess I'd like to follow some Twitters, but not twitter.

Thanks to classmates for sharing tecnology tools and teaching applications.

Day #2 Reflection

I really enjoyed learning about the music site Pandora as well as the site "classtools.net"which has many good classroom tools for any type of lesson. As a special education teacher who works with several other staff members, this seems like a valuable tool to improve delivery of our lessons as well as our communication.
The hard part about learning this information makes me realize how much I still don't know!
I would like help tomorrow morning uploading pictures when you have time. Thanks. Ann

Day 2 Post

Another great day learning about technology. I feel that I've really learned a lot, especially for personal use. Although I've learned how to incorporate these new tools in my classroom, I feel there is still one impediment...lack of computers in my building. If only, right? Well, when the lab is available (or moble lab), I will be sure to use many of the tools learned today.

I'm also thankful for all the help I've gotten along the way. The ideas generated by Chris and the rest of the class have been so beneficial to me. I can't wait to see what's in store tomorrow!
Thanks!
Liz M.

Session Two Reflections-Jan

Classroom tools.net looks to have alot of potential. I shared a number of the features with teachers from my building at lunch and their first comment was "Will you show that to us?" Have had some limited experience with the Flip video camera. Would love to have one to document progress in speech and language, especially for the little ones. People tend to forget where children are when they start in therapy and it would be a wonderful way to track progress. Flocabulary.com looks to be a site to inspire some of my more reticient students. Voki.com was just fun!

Day Two

SO much info today! I really do feel as if a whole new world has been opened up for me. I loved the classtools.net, and can see a ton of uses for it in the classroom, whether I'm in the computer lab with the kids or we're working together in the classroom, using just the one computer and projector. Some of my favs on that site were Random Name Pickers, Diamond 9 and Living Graph. Thanks!

Thanks also to Chris and other classmates for helping me to shed some of my skepticism about the "fun" stuff such as the music and photo capabilities. I've been a little hesitant to spend too much class time on things that I don't consider to be skills or content-based. However, the fact of the matter is that these types of technologies most definitely will engage the kids, help them make learning connections, and create/publish work that is slick, professional, and something to be proud of. Not to mention, I think this knowledge will be enriching to my personal life, as well. Nothing to be skeptical of there!

Day 2 reflection

Wow! Lots of cool stuff today. Before class even started, I learned about flocabulary's week in rap. I'll deffinately be sharing that with our social studies teachers who make the students fins current events topics to talk about each week. Yearbookyourself was very fun. Teachers will enjoy creating an "alter ego" of themselves at the beginning of a staff development session. Student could also use it in history or English classes when they are discussing topics from the 50's to the present--they could make a picture of themselves from the time period.Classtools.net is fabulous--there are many things I will be using from here including game templates, graphic organizers and classroom management tools. I loved fotoflexer--it will be fun to "mess" with some of my own photos and I know art and photo classes, and probably yearbook, would love to work with this application. Voki is fun and our foreigbn language classes are already using it. It could be used in many different ways to motivate the students though--introductions to projects like the examples shown in class. I enjoyed all the practice with embedding today. Lots of new tricks today.

Day 2

Wow- Day 2 of Tech Tools has been great! It was so much fun learning to work with photos in fotoflexer.com and magmypic.com.
I also enjoyed playing the states game on classtools and listening to Bach on pandora.

I am looking forward to tomorrow.

Reflection ~ Day 2

Today we discovered several photo and picture sites. I especially enjoyed fotoflexer, funphotobox, and voki. I have gained several new insights and strategies I am excited to try with my students. This class has opened my eyes to new technologies. Some sites I have heard about, but not have time to explore. It is great having an opportunity to learn new things. Thank you!

Robb Syverson Day 2 Reflection

Today was A LOT of fun! I spent more time laughing than I thought that I would. The photo editing was almost too much fun. I think that it will provide another fun way for me to interact with my students. It may also provide an opportunity for students to put finishing touches on thier work that will promote them to take more pride in what they are doing. The Voki tool can also help to add a dynamic element to my lessons. I only wish that I could embede the created Voki into my Mimio slides. The Classtools website may provide some of the best interactive tools from today. I'm really excited to start using the interactive quiz generator.

Overall, I think that my classes are going to get really spiced up this fall. Hopefully, this will help some of my students get as excited about math as I am.

Mark Czaplewski_Reflection Day 2

On Wednesday I learned a lot. Much of what I've done was working with Photo editing. I've learned lots of new ways to edit some photos so I can use them in lessons or add them to my website to add a little "flavor" to my classroom. I also liked the voki and the classtools. These were all new things I learned. I was already familiar with pandora so that was a bit redundant. I thing Chis is doing an excellent job of mixing up stuff some of alredy know and other stuff which is new to us. Giving us the time to play around is really beneficial. I am eagerly anticipating day 3 since I'd like to know a bit more about google calendar and twitter.

Reflection #2

I'm looking forward to blogging with students about what they are reading. Although I've been a bit slow in getting on board all the technology trains, I am excited about the possibilities for my students and classroom. It's becoming especially clear to me that students who may not feel comfortable giving voice to their thoughts and ideas in a classroom setting, may find that voice via some of the 21st century tools we are learning about this week.

As we begin to implement and access these online tools, what are some of the considerations we should be giving to safety in regard to identities, privacy, district policies, etc?

Lori

Reflection Day 2

Today was amazing! We learned about photo editing which I loved! What a great tool to be able to use with students and also personally. Students could learn about the techniques of photo editing and use that knowledge for all kinds of projects they would do for their classes.

Classtools.net was awesome and I can't wait to put the link on my webpage and share all that is there with my staff. Teachers are always looking for gadgets they could use in class and there are multiple uses for the tools such as Random Name Picker and Lights Out! I know that teachers will come up with all kinds of uses for the many tools found at that site!

The music sites Pandora.com and Songza.com are great for allowing kids and teachers to create their own stations for their music. I liked the ideas presented in class for using it within the classroom such as while kids are working or to pump them up for competing with each other or completing a task. An idea I have had is to do a Mocha and Music time in the Media Center and it would be a perfect way to stream the music and allow students to choose the music they would like to hear.

I know I will refer to the Ning site that has the multiple links. I'll be spending a lot of time in the next weeks looking at all the great technology tools available there.

Bending the Rules - Who me?

I've kept a list of login and password information for my personal sites but never thought about keeping one with annotations for websites. Too bad, my computer crashed in April and had to be completely rebuilt which means I lost my bookmarks. Class Tools was one of them so I am very happy to be reacquainted with it again.

What fun to play around with photos. Here's another option you might enjoy - tuxpi.com. I created this using the infinity effect.

THE MAN'S 2ND DAY REFLECTION

My second day in our class was very informational, just as the first. Today we did a plethera of fun and informationl things. Below I have a list of things I particulary found interesting, and a breif description:

Classtools- this will be helpful in the future whenever I am creating a game because the site has tons a different games and its quick and simple to create.

Pandora- PANDORA IS THE BEST INTERNET MUSIC SITE! I am a habitual pandora listener and I like the ease in which you get on and find what you are looking for.

Grooveshark- Grooveshark is another free internet music listening source but it works a little different than Pandora. Grooveshark lets you type in the artist or song you want to hear and you can listen for free; while Pandora on the other hand plays music randomly.

Today was full of other great high points in which I can list them all, but I left a gift for everyone below.......UNTIL NEXT CLASS....THE MAN

Day 2 Reflection - S Davis

What a ton of fun & cool sites we visited today!
The most obvious site for use in the classroom is classtools.net. I do think my students would LOVE flocabulary.

There are many applications for the photo editing sites we visited today:

  • Placing students images in "historical context"
  • Students posts to my blog (the one I will make)
  • Student powerpoints
  • School newsletter

Session 1

I love it when I can get new tools to share with teachers. Sketch Cast was new to me and I can see where it has great applications for teachers whose class sizes are getting larger all the time. Imagine having the teacher create a Sketch Cast modeling a skill or providing directions and then having it available for individuals or small groups to view as s(he) is working with other students.

Badger Link is such a useful tool that I don't think is utilized to full advantage by teachers in Wisconsin. I will definitely add that to my toolbox and start sharing it more widely as I train.

Mark Czaplewski's post Day 1

I thought today went quite well. I learned about 50% new stuff and 50% was stuff I already knew. When teaching this class everyone comes in, in different places and that always poses a challenge. The biggest thing I wish to get out of this class is to create a blog for math teachers in our district. Since WAWM's new focus is collaboration and I am the department chair I am always looking for a new way to facilitate discussions in our deparment. Therfore I am looking for the best took to facilitate this collaboration. I am looking for a blog/wiki that is easy to use, allows for email alerts when a new thread is posted and will aphabetize the posts so each post is in order from the sections in our book.

Session 1

Today was a lot of fun. I think that a number of items, especially the Wiki, will help facilitate a more engaging environment for my students. Soundzabound will provide an easy way to spice up my Mimio lessons as well. So far I'm getting the updating to my toolbox that I was wanting. There is a good mix of fun and utility with the resources so far.

iGoogle is something that I've been using for a while. My dependency on Google is both scary and a bit freeing. It never seems positive to give to much control to a single entity but in this case it has made many utilities that I employ cooperate. Plus, my phone, being a Droid, uses Google features to power everything it does.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

Day 1 Reflections

Christine...I came in today really really hesitant & even a bit anxious about the class. I took this course particularly because it best fit my schedule. I have to say, I enjoyed myself and learned some of the skills I have been wanting to learn but haven't had the time to. Actually, I have been one of those sceptics concerning blogs and such, I just never saw the usefulness for any of it...I'm beginning to see the light. Cindy/ Art Educator

Does anyone know of a good art/graphics computer software worth investing in for my classroom???

Day 1 Reflection: S Davis

It felt really good to take the time today to add some items to my toolbox. Often I am too busy to check out all the cool technology that is available but I feel like I'm starting to catch up! Our discussions have broadened my understanding of how these tools can be utilized in the classroom. I am looking forward to getting on TWITTER this week, though I will admit that I do still have some apprehension about it.

Tech tools-session one reflection

Lots of exposure to new ideas, but all the switching and moving from one thing to another makes it difficult to feel proficient enough to come up with creative uses. I imagine that will come with use and be determined in large part by our respective positions. Depending on the amount of water in my basement when I get home, I may pursue more of the Google information that we explored today. Jan S.

Reflection for Day 1

I love all of the uses for Google that we learned today. I can't wait to share with my staff and students some of the great tools available in the Google suites. I'll definitely be trying all of the different features and deciding on what classes I can share them with and how they might be incorporated into the curriculum in different areas.
I also like learning the differences between a Wiki and a Blog. I have a blog on my webpage, but have wanted to help teachers in various classes create ways that they can communicate with thier students. I will definitely share wikispaces and pbwiki as options they may want to look at.
The other thing that excited me was to see that some of the tools I already use in my library media program were presented such as Soundzabound. It makes me feel good to know that there are things that I am doing that others see as being useful tools for teacher and student use.
I'm looking forward to trying some of the other tools that are listed on the syllabus, but we didn't have time for in class.

1st Day Reflection

My first day of class was great!!! Having a computer science background, I didn't expect that I would've learned what I did today. One particular application that I liked was Google Books. I didn't know that Google had created a online book archive. That was helpful information. Ms. Longe was a very helpful and knowledgeable instructor and I look forward to my upcoming classes.

Day 1 Post

Wow! The incredible amount of information we received today is invaluable! My head is spinning with ideas on how to use this information personally and in my classroom. I can find various uses, already, for many of the tools we learned about. My favorite is iGoogle. I think, personally, it has useful tools for everyday life. In the classroom, it sure will help with creating interesting opening activities, broadening my use of technology, and making language and writing fun for my students. Thanks for all this new information. This is coming from someone who would LOVE to incorporate more technology in my classroom but doesn't always know quite how to do it effectively.

Day 1 reflection

I learned a lot of new things about what is available in Google. The pace of teaching was just right for having time to "play" and ask questions. I will work on many of these applications over the summer to create usable, interactive "spaces" for my classes. I see many applications for my Battle of the Books team.

Reflection by Cheryl

Today I learned how to use many new tools I've heard about, but haven't explored. I hope to be able to incorporate many of the things I've learned today into the classes that I teach.
With the exception of Wiki (which I've only seen, but have never really played with), everything I learned today was new knowledge for me! I was most excited by everything Google. So many opportunities there! My husband already thinks that aliens run the world, because he can't possibly understand how human beings have made all this happen. Once I get home tonight and show him just a little of the "even more" that Google can do, his suspicions will be confirmed!

I can already envision how I might use Google Books, Google Earth, Custom searches, and Google Docs in the classroom. I very much appreciate seeing how to do advanced searches for things like PowerPoints and Jeopardy games; access to such materials will fit very smoothly and effectively into what we do. Other things that we learned today (Sketchcast or Wiki, for example) will be great to play with; I will need to practice more AND have my classroom brought into the 21st century a little more in order to use these things to their fullest potential.

Sketchcast.com
tkbmoose2

Students could list/write about:
•What I learned today in class – minimum 3 things that are new to me
•E-mail the 1st Sketchcast to self
•E-mail the 1st Sketchcast to teacher

2. Personal Learning Network (PLN)

3. Students will create an I-Google page
•Add a clock
•Add the weather
•Tell me 3 other interests of yours that you added to your I-Page

4. As the teacher, I created a personal/custom search for
Reading Mechanical Drawings (for Intro to Engineering)

5. Yearbookyourself.com
Students can take their own picture & place their photos in different era hairdos

6. A blog is a web log

Very useful information:

Understand google as a portal to useful functions--really a pandora's box through the advanced search. I now feel like I am collaborating with the world!

Useful tools for me:
igoogle
google calendar

Learned about more sites for kids and how to limit access through the personal search engine

Thank you for excellent pacing and the review of what has been learned.

21st Century Classroom Environment

I wish my classroom environment reflected the 21st century web tools I learned about today. Whiteboards and a bank of several computers would be a welcome addition. Though we have access to computer labs in the IMC and 8th grade wing, these areas aren't always available, nor do I always need every student to have computer access at the same time. Hopefully our physical classrooms will catch up to the 21st century soon! Lori

Reflections #1

This has been a very informative session for me. I now have enough knowledge to play with the sites and learn on my own.The pace of the class has been good. Thanks!

1st day of class

I've enjoyed learning about some of the technology ideas that I've heard about.
I appreciate the way you keep the pace of the class slow.
I'm really excited about using these ideas at school.

Email Address

I will need you to send me your email address that you'd like to use for this class. I'll just have you come up to my computer and type it in during our first class time. You can use your school email but if you have a gmail, hotmail, yahoo mail, road runner account, etc. those would work fine. Sometimes they even work better for participants. You may even want to create a new email account on one of these services so that it can be used just for this class. In fact, I would recommend that!

Websites We Will Use Now and in the Future

This website will be used a great deal during our class:

It's called "Technology Tools for the 21st Century Library Media Center" (notice any similarity? :) ). And, the URL for this site is:

http://toolsforthelmc.ning.com/

http://www.chrislonge.com

Items you may want to bring to our class.

As we work through out class, you may want to bring the following items:

- Digital camera and cables to connect to the computer
- Flash drive
- Headphones
- Notebook
- Required text book, Google Tools for Teaching and Learning by Tammy Worcester
